The demografic they said was supposed to be teens /young adults, but that was the excuse to have the show done, It is like some anime that are use to talk about things athat are taboo. In reality is an adult show, because the stuff they talk about, are incomprehensible to teens and young adults and they cannot possibly get it.

Infact there is n so much silly hard core teens and young adults that get the show so badly wrong because they have no idea of what is going on and all they do is trolling, with their silly "opinions" everybody else that even try to explain to them, what is actually going on.

Like Stefan lies, gaslight, manipulate,  and the fact that at the very beginning the narrative you god /bad brother is actually there to be flipped, is very clear, the writers gives you clues from the pilot, "I promiss you an eternity of misery" why? T What Stefan did that is so severe to induce a brother to wish you and eternity of misery? That alone should make you question things, that what is apperent is also contraddictory. So what is the real story? The young audience don't have the capacity to question what they hear and apply critical thinking, that is exactly what the writers want the audience to do, they just got the message Stefan is the good brother and run with it for 8 season, completelly oblivious to anything else because their brain alpply what is call "confirmation bias", that occur when your brain doesn't understan what you are seen, that form an opinion based on the little knoledege you have to make sense and select ONLY the pert that confirm your opinion ignoring the rest, so they get it so incredibly wrong.

That is the problem of marketing wrongly a TV show. Definatelly a show for adult with a good education, basic knowledge of psycology and that have lived long enough to read people correctly, to know what is wrong and right, that can recognise manipulation , that know the basics of a decent relationship, what is gaslighting,  and can connect facts, and look for motivations. Dammon and Stefan are both manipulation Elena, but wat are their motivations? Stefan is to seduce Elena, to make sure she fall for him, to have her because she is a remider of the time he was human and in love with Katherine and  because she is the good dversion of her, before everything went wrong. Damon is pushing Elena to ask questions, he is warning her that his brtehrs is not what she think he is, without outing his brother. Different motivations, one selfish, one selfless.
