   A lot of the things in Spongebob are just for the joke, but some things are legit scientific stuff Hillenburg brought in from his Marine Biologist background like Goo Lagoon and Rock Bottom. The scientific stuff is definitely a garnish though, Spongebob at its core is an absurdist comedy and should be seen as such. People that go too crazy in either direction are annoying, both goofy nonsense and scientific nods can exist at the same time lol

    Every character in the show has varying levels of toon force powers. Therefore, they can manipulate reality and break the laws of physics whenever necessary for the plot.

       And they all got these powers whenever the US Military was conducting nuclear bomb testing in the Pacific Ocean. Specifically, at the Bikini Atoll where they tested 24 nuclear weapons.
