you really did take a break at the worst part of the series
Volume 4 was a volume of mourning- it was the volume after Monty's death as well as the volume where 3/4ths of team RWBY deal with their trauma from The Fall of Beacon. It is the slowest paced volume of the series for a reason.
Granted I prefer it to 5 because of how bleak it is but 5 is the pay-off to a lot of the plot threads 4 set up. You really did yourself a disservice and I am glad you are back with Volume 5.
5 is probably my least favorite (it is still incredible though- I'd give it a 7/10) and the entire "Anima Arc" that consists of Volumes 4, 5, and 6 is probably the weakest of the series. Still can't wait for you to see some of the incredible moments comming up in this volume!

4 and 5, yes, but Volume 6? I think that’s the volume that brought a lot of people back. It was my favorite volume at the time, and still possibly top 3
Episode 4 is my favorite episode of this season as a Yang stan and a Weiss stan, though I'm also hyped for the season finale.

So Blake's story line is acctually occurring out of time from everyone else's. In this episode (3) they even note that the plan to attack is on the last full moon which is months away, but Ruby and the gang talk about it being alot closer. They really do a terrible job explaining this and you really only can surmise it if you pay enough attention to the dialog.
