So, regarding the color naming aspect of the show, it's not often taken literally. In fact, a set of rules Monty made for people wanting to create OCs was that in regards to color, the names could either be a color (in any language), sound like a color, or remind the person creating the character of a color. So even if a name's color origins aren't clearly discernable, it doesn't mean there isn't one.
One of the other rules, a fairytale of literary inspiration was also presented, but I believe was made to be more of a suggestion and not a requirement. As such, the creators of RWBY don't always give their characters literary inspirations. And sometimes the inspiration for the characters isn't literary at all. You guys have seen Volume 3, so you've met Neon Katt. Her inspiration was Nyan Cat, the meme. Flynt Coal, likewise, was based on a recurring joke among many of RT's series, I believe first showing up on YoggsCast (I think that was an RT series, anyway). The other two members of their team, who you have yet to meet, are both based on the same meme.
But that team is the biggest outlier when it comes to character inspiration. Most characters either have an inspiration or they don't. Sometimes it's clear what the inspiration is, and other times, it's not.

I mean, that's what I thought too, but the way Ozpin said it did kind of imply that and I was like wait... since when? I never caught that before? He said: "As first year students, you will be tasked with shadowing a professional Huntsman..." I guess that either means they are all in the room and he is specifying the first years, or that they all are first years in the room. Right?

Damn, by the time I posted my comment at least four people had the same idea. Lol the RWBY fandom realy have a hivemind. I'm curious as to why you haven't reacted to the Volume 1 soundtrack yet. Do you plan to do it later or is it that you don't want to react to a bunch of songs? If you want to have the lyrics and an ideaa of who the song is about I suggest FlyntofRWBY's channel (For Volume 3 to 9) and HuntSD for Volume 1 and 2. I'm so glad to see you react to my favourite series and I can't wait to see your reaction to volume 3!!! (i'm using google translate sorry fot the errors lol)

Weiss is white in German, Blake means black in French (I think, I could be wrong), Yang means Sun/Light (in this instance) in Mandarin. Jaune means yellow in French, Pyrrha means flame colored in Greek, Nora and Ren don't have direct color names, but they refer to light (nora) and lotus (ren) respectively, which is where they get their color palates from!
The color naming rule that was put forth by Monty after seeing people wanted to make OCs and such, is that the names either have to "be a color, mean a color, or make you think of a color." So the color names are a bit more flexible than literal.

Ruby isn't the only character named after a color. Weiss means white in German ( her full name "Weiss Schnee" translates to Snow White, the character she is based on), Blake means black in old English, Yang means sunny or sun (her full name Yang Xiao Long translates from Chinise to sunny little dragon).
Each important character is named after a fairy tale character or hero/legend:
Ruby is little red riding hood, Blake Belladonna is both the beauty and the beast, Yang is Goldilocks, Nora Valkyrie is Thor, Ren Lie is Mulan, Pyrrha Nikos is Achilles... you get the idea

Actually almost all of the names in RWBY are color associated. Ruby obviously is red, but Weiss means “white” in german (Weiss Schnee being White Snow). Blake means black, combined with her last name Belladonna (plant that has purple flowers and black berries). And Yang Xiao Long translates to sunny little dragon in Chinese, hence the yellow color scheme. :))
(Notable mentions being Emerald (green), Sun (yellow), Jaune (yellow), Mercury (Black)

So the name being based off of colors is actually true. While they may not seem like it their names are supposed to resemble, sound, or even remind you of a color. Some examples would be Weiss means white in German, Yang’s whole name means Sunny Little Dragon, Blake is black, Jaune is like jaundice which makes your skin yellow, and so on.
