I used to think Thor and his stories was always like Lord of the Rings type stuff, all serious and everything. From learning he was turned into a frog and this storyline has me understand more that this is what Thor is about.
This will probably always be my favorite of the series, maybe the franchise. The story telling, the humor, the visuals. Mixing new with old. IMHO its just a masterclass of a film.
Im not gonna lie I ACTUALLY NEED THAT SHIRT
Thor just took L after L in this movie
I always forget the first part of this movie, because the ending is so much different from the rest.
The first post credit scene leads directly into Infinity War
Without a comic lense, this a fairly entertaining film. With it? Fuck Taika Waititi.
It's called making a movie. Just like with books you can't do page to screen. It doesn't work. I feel this got the story across in a very entertaining way. Can you provide any context why this supposedly shit in your proverbial comic cornflakes?
Speaking as someone who doesn't read the comics and was only exposed to superhero stuff outside of it I still think the movie is just fine. The best parts of the movie are retracing past steps. Like the scene with Hulk becoming Banner again or the scene of Loki and Thor in the elevator. But when the movie is trying to do new stuff I find it rather weak. I would say the Hulk vs Fenrir is a look less cool than I see people hype it up to be. I find it also made Thor a far less distinct character. Basically Thor Ragnarok is the Man of Steel of the MCU but just more successful financially and critically. It fundamentally misunderstands the appeal of Thor because Waititi doesn't get it. That is the same criticism Snyder's version of Superman got. the difference is one ventured too dark and the other too silly. I think that's a big reason why Love and Thunder was as good as it was. At that point Waititi didn't have the crutch of past elements showing how shallow his grasp of Thor's character ultimately is.
Why so mad , they said it's a good movie if u don't look at it through the lense of comics , no Odin force , thors friends get killed off (it's Ragnarok so that's fine ) then immediately replaced by korg and valkarie who are just as comedic and girl bossy but thros friends get treated like a joke just like sif who isn't in this movie but dunked on for no reason in Thor 4 sutr is literally treated like a throwaway joke which then screws up the chance to introduce beta ray bill and considering when the corbanites do show up in one of the next movies they look like horse people which misses the whole point of bills transformation and story. Hela was a cool enough villian but she was barely anything like the comics , they literally gave her gor the god butchers powers which makes his appearance in the next Thor movie less impactful , scourge was enjoyable ,karl urbans great , but his defiant last stand just kinda jumping a couple feet onto a bridge and instantly getting killed by Hela instead of going out like doomslayer. It's a great movie , and some of the planet hulk changes like not having meek secretly become evil and starting a interplanetary war , taking stuff like that out or having Thor vs hulk instead of hulk vs silver surfer or beta Rey bill is a fine compromise . Also the grandmaster is supposed to be a cosmic elder of the universe not some dude on a weird time planet , but again jeff goldblum does a great job so it's fine , why are people not allowed to have an opinion lmao??
Please watch Planet Hulk! That movie tells Hulk’s journey so much better than this one.
This movie wasn't here to tell a planet Hulk story
It quite literally does though, 80 minutes of this movie is lifted from Planet Hulk, while the actual Ragnarok plot line only gets 40 minutes of screen time. They spent double the amount of time on PH compared to Ragnarok, so you can’t say they weren’t trying to tell the Planet Hulk story when that’s the majority of this movie.
No man just because a lot of the movie takes place on that planet doesn't mean they had to tell a planet whole storyline it was just loosely there. It was still a Thor movie telling a story through Thor
He's not saying it's because they were on the planet, this is the MCU's Planet Hulk adaptation. Just because they put in a Thor movie doesn't make that any less true.
Fun Fact they re shot Odin's death scene they changed it because the test audience thought it was to sad to see Odin die in a new york alley as a homeless man with no memory of who he was... good change
So Matt Damon plays Loki in Dogma and in this XD
I feel like I'm gonna be one of the Billies roasted into oblivion even by the crew for this, but I really didn't enjoy this movie as much as I used to. Idk, the massive change to more comedy never really sat with me, Thor kinda just felt like a punching bag the entire time in ways that really didn't make much sense, and idk if it's just an effect of later stuff, but I really don't like Korg anymore. It's a fine movie, but really only like a B- for me. If I get roasted to death for this take then aight.
I didn't mind Thor getting whacked around a bit, as one of his charms is being a loveable oaf, however I didn't enjoy how comedy-focused it was compared to the other Thor movies, which were more drama/destroyed family focused. With the comedy, it also tries to put Thor in a "I'm so much better then everyone" light, when he's just as flawed as Odin, Loki, and Frigga. Hela is shown to be a "better" Thor and Loki in her fighting style, but we don't really get as much character from her outside of being a Queen Boss. We didn't even get the hug between Loki and Thor at the end, thanks to actual CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT happening... and that would have fit so well in Thor 1 and 2. DX At least we got Valkyrie lore, but the fact that Loki could see her vision too, was totally glossed over for more comedy. =/
Nah I agree, my biggest gripe is how Taika “adapts” one of the best modern Hulk storylines, for 2/3rds of this comedic Thor movie. Like we didn’t even need a full Planet Hulk movie, but to make him comedic relief in his own story is just feels so disrespectful to the character.
absolutely spit on a peak hulk storyline i agree
This wasn't Hulk's movie though. I'm sure if it was called Incredible Planet Hulk it would've been able to cover the necessary material.
the reason why people are annoyed is that instead of making a Planet Hulk movie, they took that story and squeezed it into a Thor movie. A lot of people feel that this resulted in not really giving justice to either of the storylines.
my personal belief is that Cliff is the first place Odin "landed" on upon arriving on Midgard for the first time, or perhaps the first place he brought his children on their first travel outside the realm of Asgard
They have played a little with the "actual" Nordic Lore here. Hel is actually the daughter of Loki and the Mighty Troll Angurboda. She is definitely not their sister
Also the fact that Fenrir is also Loki's son
They missed out not having huge drum mags on Des and Troy or having them be something bigger like M60s. It'd even make sense an Asguardian would be strong enough to dual wield them.
Karl Urban reminds me that you guys have GOT to do a The Boys series
It's honestly super nice to rewatch the classic MCU films again. Been loving the reactions.
Man i'm loving the MCU watch y'all should also watch THE BOYS!!!! It's a gritty dark superhero show with some light humor it would be perfect for yall and the channel if you havent watched it already its a masterpiece in its class
Hela is like a Bethesda player character. Does whatever she wants, way stronger than anything else, everybody in the world still thinks they stand a chance of beating her.
I remember the first time I watched this movie. I pirated it and watched it on a school Chromebook.
Surtur*
BIG EASTER EGG The play actor that plays Thor and Loki’s play is Chris Hemsworth, brother Luke Hemsworth search her is played by Mr. Krabs
Surtur*
I feel like the capptions ruin alot of the jokes
Electrocution is a portmanteau of electric and execution, so unless you die by electric shock, you've not been electrocuted. Just shocked.
I don't care what anybody says, if you don't consider this movie a top 3-5 MCU movie, your opinion is incorrect. It was the perfect balance...I have my own feelings on Love and Thunder...it was a little too much comedy without the darkness that balanced this one out so well...that being said, had they treated Gorr more accurate and let Bale steal the show (which he still did because he does in anything he's in), Love and Thunder would be right up there with this one. It's still better than Thor 2, which is in the bottom tier of the MCU right there beside Captain Marvel and Iron Man 3, IMO the bottom 3 entries pre-Endgame.
THANK YOU! None of this felt cheap or cheesy. The action was great, the story kept you invested. Connected plots secinctly enough. I love it. I agree with Love and Thunder not exactoy being what fans were hoping for. Definitely over corrected for the gritty, and frankly boring drama that was early Thor. Let the bastard have some damn fun. He's an Asgardian God, of course he's going to be over confident and a bit aloof. Especially after thinking he is losing the love of his life. What ties him to Earth after that? The Avengers? They just defeated a Universe-level threat. I'd feel a need to kick back as well. Also, the comics haven't gone anywhere. It's an adaptation, not scripture. Give it just a bit of creative freedom alright?
rewatch thor 2 its better then love and thunder
Yall crazy af Captain Marvel is great
Iron man 3 is nowhere near as bad as cm or thor 2
This is by far the best Thor film and is one of my ultimate favorite MCU movies, at least top 5. I absolutely love the comedy in this and I'm so glad Chris got to show off his comedic chops too because he is so funny and I felt like in the other ones we never got enough of it, the growth between him and Loki was also done really well. I also really liked that we got to see Hulk more and his inner struggle, it makes sense why he wouldn't turn back to Banner and stayed there as long as he did, he was praised and adored, he knew what happened the last time he was on earth, so why leave. And I'll just say it, Thor had far more chemistry with Valkyrie then he ever did with Jane. Don't get me wrong I do like her but Chris and Tessa were just awesome together. I don't mind that they didn't make them a couple either because that honestly annoys me when they always have to put them together, that doesn't need to happen all the time. And even though his screen time with limited Anthony Hopkins also crushed it, during the play he honestly felt like Loki, his mannerisms were perfect. A fun fact too the actor that was playing Thor during it was Chris Hemsworth brother, Luke I believe it was. That part makes me laugh every time.
Nice Review ?.
Yes this is a great Thor movie but unfortunately this did so well that later down the line MCU just tried to copy it and this is when Marvel lost it's seriousness and tried to be more jokey. Hence why people use the term "Marvel jokes".
Multiply the comedy of this film by one trillion (To the point where it's no longer funny) and remove the decent character writing and development. Then you'll have the next Thor movie lol.
Dont know if you recognized them but the general and the two guys Hela kills in the bifrost room were Thors friends The warriors 3
By the way, when you watch Infinity War, I would recommend making time for 4 movies that day if possible. I'm not just saying that to get more movies. It's best to binge Infinity War with the 3 movies that follow it. Waiting between them will be torture for you.
Nahhh, torture them. We waited a year, they can wait a few days lol /mostlyj
Idris Elba in fantasy just feels right. I'd love to see him in more high fantasy stuff.
“You’ll always be the God of Mischief, but you could be more.”
GODDAMN, hearing that line after Loki season 2 hits so much harder!
Somebody will probably say on Youtube, but in the comics and myths Hela is Loki's daughter not sister. Also the wolf, Fenrir, is her brother as is the world serpent Jörmungandr, all three by a frost giant mother. Comics Hela is mostly just interested in getting Thor's soul.
So are they going to watch loki the tv show? Have they said?
they've talked about it enough that i'm sure they will, gotta wait till after endgame for that though (and really, they could watch almost all the d+ shows after endgame (and black widow in the case of hawkeye)
Can't confirm but probably since they've asked what point they can watch it and seem excited for it.
Warning: potentially sad to read - Trigger Warning (all that)
So in reference to the whole "stepping on Miek" thing, that actually happened to my family. We had a kitten that was only a few months old and very playful and one night my mom had on bell bottom pants after work and he was chasing the pant legs and tripped her. When she fell she had to catch herself with her other leg to avoid falling and hitting her head on her dresser and he had moved to where she stepped on his belly when saving herself. He seemed like he was just hurting from it but we planned to take him first thing in the morning anyway (we live hours from a 24hr pet hospital and besides not wanting to eat and seeming like it hurt a bit to move, we didnt have any major signs he needed to go right away). I won't go into any details but when we took him the next morning they said he had internal injuries and was too young and weak for surgery to try to fix it. We were also told that going immediately very likely wouldn't have changed anything. So we said our goodbyes and had to put him down to save him from any more pain. His name was Stormy and he was the most loving and goofy little guy. It was really hard for my mom and everyone. No one blamed her and luckily she didn't blame herself for too long. But that is such a crazy and sad thing to actually go through.
(Still think the joke in the movie is funny tho, it's just a good edgy joke at the end of the day lol)
Easily the best Thor movie by far and one of the more goated mcu film as well
i hope someone going to bring up Infinity War Trailer does not have in Finalize Infinity War
Idris Elba great actor, he'll always be Stringer Bell to me though.
This is probably my favorite MCU movie. The action is great, the story is cool, and it's super funny. I can't wait for yall to get to End Game.
Our girl looking good, did she lose some weight? (I mean no offense at all)
NEW ZEALAND
Korg is DEFINITELY my favorite character of this movie, love him so much lol
I have walked off a bridge before... Granted it was midnight, no moon or stars out, and i was trying to eat while walking, and texting.
I also highly recommend Pathfinder
Okay. So you didn't recognize the big ship at the mid-credit scene? Okay. Yeah.
So, next MCU should be Black Panther. Then Infinity War, Captain Marvel or Ant-Man 2. And then Endgame. Can't wait. I'm especially stoked for Infinity war and Endgame. Also Black Panther.
Yes thor 4 is the one people hate
the big one is comin
“Thor” in the play at the beginning is the third Hemsworth brother, Luke, and the actor who voices Surtur is Clancy Brown, aka Mr. Krabs.
Also hades from god of war
You've probably been recommended it already, but if you like Hulk's personality he's fantastic in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
awesome series
lionsgate made a bunch of awesome marvel animated movies yall should check out, one of them is planet hulk which is an adaptation of the comic version of his time on sakar which is awesome
i do like this movie but man did they completely piss all over the planet hulk/world war hulk storylines by just making hulk a dumb content gladiator who likes being a pet. The comic he was a destined champion foretold to bring nwe life to sakar, hulk was exhuiled form earth on a ship and while destroying it he wound up on sakar where he became a slave/gladiator before leading a slave revolt to overthrow the red king alongside his new friends and eventual wife Caeira of the Oldstrong.
theres a fantastic animated movie for Planet Hulk actually, lionsgate made a bunch of awesome mavrel animated movies yall should check out
Yeah Planet Hulk would be great after watching this! Seeing it was more serious and entirely hulk focused.
And following up with the Hulk vs would be crazy cool.
I only watched this movie on release, but now seeing all the actors makes me really wanna rewatch Hunt For The Wilderpeople. I know it's not the type of movie you guys react to, but I do highly recommend it, it's one of Taika's best films
I would love them to react to it so bad. Such a good movie.
This is the movie you gotta be "oxygenated" for
I just realized they eluded to Beta Ray Bill with those 3 statues on the planet idk how I’ve never noticed that. That’s so fire
If youre familiar with the planet hulk comics , beta ray bill was another enslaved gladiator champion under the red king. They actually talk about korg being there only because beta ray killed all of his planet invading team and he flew into a worm hole while trying to escape him, which is how both of them ended up on sakar. Once hulk freed him of the kings control, they team up to help everyone escape
I didn’t know that ik beta ray from some series but not much about his relation with Korg. But its interesting hearing about this. Thanks for the info.
I never noticed the fake infinity gauntlet in Odins vault
THE BEST THOR MOVIE??? (imo)
Imagine a Thor game by blizzard!
I love blizzard but that kind of game isn't really their thing.
blizzard...?
ITS HERE!!!!?
