For any curious Billies out there, on youtube there's a series of videos on the 'Stan Winston School' channel who did the effects for the movie. There's the process of them building the T-rex and some of the other dinos, too. Its pretty incredible the marriage of artistry and tech that got used. I think that animatronic was also put in the Smithsonian. They had to make such crazy hydraulics for it to move that they had to raise the roof of the building, and I remember learning that when they finally got to move the noisy machinery away from the dino itself when they were starting to film, that it was such an eerie experience for them to see it move without hearing it.   "Sculpting a full size dinosaur' seems to be the first video and then there's links in the description to more. Worth it.

Relatively unimportant to anyone but me, I'm sure, but those are Ford Explorers not Expeditions X3 Expeditions came later and are WAY bigger. Escapes are smaller than Explorers. Then came the Edge, Flex, new Bronco, etc.

A lot of the movie is implied dinosaurs because they didn't have the budget for a lot of dinosaur screen time. The movie only has 15 minutes of on screen dinosaurs. They build up the suspense and save budget by showing things like rustling leaves without showing the dinosaurs for most of the movie.

Fun fact they made the raptors bigger in the movie then they actually were to make them scarier but not long after same year the movie came out a species of raptor was discovered in Utah that is actually that big its called the Utah raptor and the biggest raptor species known

The funniest part of Hammond lecturing Nedry about finances is that Nedry's money issues were entirely caused by InGen. He told them they needed more programmers, that one person could not do the needed work and he tried to back out, but InGen went and slandered him to his other clients, causing him to loose all his contracts but inGen's. He had no choice but to keep working on the project. "Spared no expense," indeed.

Great reaction to a CLASSIC movie. SO good and such amazing effects for its time. One note, Dennis Nedry is NOT Hammond's son. He only said that "Dad" line as an insult implying that Hammond was being dismissive like a parent might be to their bratty kid.

Fun Fact: Sam L Jackson's character was supposed to have an onscreen death. We would've seen him get chased down to the maintenance shed by a velociraptor. And just when he thought he'd be safe after descending the flight of stairs, the raptor would've jumped over the stairs and pounced right on top of him. Unfortunately, there was a storm in real-life that trashed the set they were filming on, so they had to cut that scene out.

I remember in the bonus content for the DVD, there was a behind the scenes for the kitchen sequence that I'm pretty sure was done with claymation. At the time I believe Industrial Light and Art (Lucasfilms) would do claymation to storyboard their cgi.

Some species of duck do a similar feat as the frogs when in a single sex population. Idk if they spontaneously change sex but I believe some can self fertilize.

I guess I never paid close attention to the specifics of the plot before, because I always thought that the storm was what initially killed the power. But no, the storm was just set dressing, and Nedry did that all on his own

Kids aren't stupid, they just have less information than adults. I'm pretty sure the girl was shining the light because she thought maybe people would see it and come save them. That's not stupid. It's actually a logical decision, just without as much info as we the audience have. She didn't know that the T=Rex's vision was based on movement, and she didn't know what to do, so in her mind the best thing would be to try to get help.

It has always bothered me that they have Lex eating Jello when she's supposed to be vegetarian. I guess we can chalk it up to a kid not knowing where gelatin comes from? Potentially it's part of the "spared no expense" that Hammon would've had his chefs make the vegetarian kind (agar agar, I think?), but I dont remember hearing about vegetarian jello at all in the 80s-90s.

Little Jurassic Park Fun Fact: When the Rexy broke the glass car roof the reaction of the kids were genuine. They were told that the Rex head would not break through the roof.

To expand further on this: The T-Rex head really wasn't supposed to break through the roof, but because of all the fake rain on set, the animatronic's fake skin absorbed alot of water which caused the head to smash down into the glass roof and break it, having suddenly weighed significantly more than what the animatronics were designed for to function properly.

One thing to keep in mind is this book was written in the mid to late 80's and published in 1990. So the automation and shit they're using is cutting edge. There were probably only a handful of people back then that could program and set up an automated computer network like that. So they were pretty much stuck with Nedry as the computer guy. Also Hammond is a complete piece of shit in the book. I much prefer this more grandfatherly version of him.

My parents actually worked at like a nature / science shop called Nature Company when this came out and yes all of the merch that you see in the movie did exist. They sold it at their store. They also got free tickets to go and see it when it came out and apparently according to them a lot of parents mistakenly brought their kids to this movie thinking that it would be kid friendly. One of the kids apparently threw up and ran out of the theatre after the raptor jump scare scene.

They copy paste a handful of the same stills of their faces for all reaction thumbnails, so no, there isn't a reason. it's either a face from some other reaction, or not even from a reaction at all. For example, if you look at the Iron Man 2 reaction thumbnail it's the exact same face

Just to be clear, Dennis Nedry was not John Hammond's son. He was saying "thanks Dad" in a sarcastic and smart ass kind of way. I have seen other reactors make the same mistake, he wasn't being serious. John Hammond only had a daughter, which was Tim and Lex's mother, who was actually in the middle of a divorce. So, I'm thinking that's a big reason why the kids came to the park.

awesome stuff. i love dinosaurs! in the book, they use a baby raptor to distract the adult raptors to try to get away because they end up running through the genetics area. those raptors didn't give af and ate that nugget. also, the aviary part of jurassic park III was from the book also and was supposed to happen here. it was a cool  scene so i'm glad it made it into one of the movies.

Reminds me i need to reread my copy too. Been 20 years for me. Cuz i think it even includes like parts they added in 2 where dinos make it to the mainland and cause havoc. Mom told me she was actually terrified after reading it when she was pregnant with or had just had me cuz in part of it, the velociraptors snuck into open windows of homes and snatched up babies.

Here's the Spanish translation for you (I'm Mexican lol)

    - When the dude is being pulled while floating in the raft, the other dude says "I bet you 50 pesos that he falls"

    - After that the other guy speaking Spanish says "boss, we found another mosquito" and the dude replies "let's see it"

    - When they're inside the mine he yells "hey boys, give me some light!"

I probably missed something but yeah, it's a lazy move not to translate such easy dialogs but we gotta suck it up I guess. The most important thing here maybe is the fact that they already were looking for mosquitoes, they didn't just found one by accident (that casually contained viable blood). And the rest of the movie isn't very clear about this curious fact (as far as I remember).
