totally missed the 'another broken white boy' comment
This movie is so overhyped. There are some interesting elements for sure. But the plot/storyline is just so predictable and boring. I’m rewatching here in like- small segments because even with the commentary/group I just lose interest.
yes SEAN please buy throwing knives, that would be sick af
Crazy that the border patrol was so eager to fall in line with a Tyrant. Imagine something like that happening irl?
Jokes aside, Michael B Jordan did so good as Killmonger, it's the biggest missed opportunity that they killed him off. He would have been the perfect replacement for Black Panther after Chadwick passed. And it would have been a great redemption arc for his character.
They’re in the multiverse arc now though. There might be a universe where Kilmonger was a rebel against a facist Wakanda. Or trying to liberate a conquered Wakanda. Or even one where the vibrainium meteorite broke up, so instead of one giant mound, you have 2 or more still large, but less than 616 Wakanda’s in size(more interesting than simply a different country becoming like Wakanda).
Any one of them could have a more noble Kilmonger worthy of the mantle. Just throwing out ideas. ?♂️
Ew, no. Hypocrite deserved what he got.
Andy Serkis also plays Caesar in Planet of the Apes
Fun fact. Michael b Jordan is a huge weeb and had it so his killmonger armor was vegeta saiyan saga inspired
I remember seeing this opening night, one of the last movies I went to that was a completely sold out theater, I was crammed up in the corner in the top row. Worth it.
This movie came out while I was studying in Amsterdam and I lived in the a mostly none white community. I went to see the movies at the cinema there and it was amazing to see so many proud people that day. It's one of my best movie experiences ever. They even respected me for coming alone as a white guy to the specific theater to watch the movie with them which was the sweetest thing!
I'm so glad you got to have an enjoyable theater experience! Especially seeing such a cultural milestone. Mine was sadly the opposite. I was in an almost all-white theatre (Ironic) aside from me and three other black women I had the misfortune of sitting right next to, cause they were the most disrespectful movie-goers I've ever come across. They wouldn't stop screaming at the film the whole time. Kinda soured the whole thing for me.
This is such a great movie, but it's also so sad to watch knowing what he was dealing with at the time. Mad respects for him, though! He really did leave behind a legacy that will be hard to fill.
y'all need to watch the creed movies, they are so dope.
Andy Serkis is amazing, he played and did live motion capture for Golum in LOTR movies, and new Planet of the Apes movies. He also pretty much made motion capture technology what it is today.
Really underrated movie you guys should watch is "Burke and Hare" (2010). It's a period piece dark comedy based on a true story, starring Andy Serkis and Simon Pegg.
not to oversell it but: Infinity War is MCU Peak for me
He very clearly had powers through all of civil war
"So he doesn't have super powers at this point" -Eric 5 seconds after a clip of him leaping across a room
It was edited out of the movies, but I believe there’s a deleted scene where T’Chala and his dad talk about his dad passing the mantle of Black Panther down to his son because he could no longer fit into the uniform/was getting too old for it to help prepare his son for the day he would become king. There’s a What if episode that implies the King may appoint someone else as the Black Panther if he wishes also.
Looking forward for the avengers movie, gonna get my snacks ready
Suck you can't watch from your TV has to be on our phone
So hyped for infinity war
The two white guys in the movie were both in lord of the rings/the hobbit. So one could say they are the.. Tolkien white guys of the movie ?
Good movie definitely not as good as i remember though, the humour and CGI battle aged poorly and the writing has flaws. The acting and costumes are great though. Definitely like a B tier in the MCU movies.
This is an interesting way to get a Gollum and Bilbo reunion.
As a Cameroonian American. This movie means so much to me.
I think a lot of the depth is in the cultural context between the strife of the entire African dispose. Especially African Americans vs West Africans.
The scene of killmonger barging in on the tribal elders is so powerful, because he represents both sides of the children of the African diaspora. His entire outward appearance oozes with what Africans would call “Akata” I think the term is even considered outdated and offensive but it’s the idea of a westernized black person like an African American that’s “irregular” because they have no connection to their culture or ancestors , which entirely out of their control. (And also is a misconception, as you’ve seen in Sinners a lot of ancestral African customs were passed to the enslaved). He comes in an “outsider”, yet the first thing he says is “Hey, Auntie”something i’d utter to my own aunt in New Jersey, in American accent, -yet the highest sign of respect to the correct person in the room- the Queen. And challenges his cousin for the throne, which is his right by blood.
Some extended spiel with my experiences and point of view since that’s all I have to go by:
It was the first time I had ever seen anything even related to authentic West African culture represented in Hollywood in a non negative backwards light . From a company as big as Marvel.
The Friday weekend it came out, my friends group went out to see the movie. They weren’t overtly disrespectful during, but I guess there was something about the social climate at the time, that even though I thought it was a decent movie. I felt uncomfortable the whole time like I couldn’t enjoy the themes.
My friends would make jokes and I would laugh along. (This was the 2016-2019 anti-sjw so if I didn’t laugh I would be called sensitive. I sure they weren’t being malicious and If I asked them now, I’m sure they would be embarrassed.) when we were disssuing the movie after I remember there being a lump in throat .
That Saturday night.
My sister and aunt planned and came with my cousins from Maryland and my family went to watch the movie together . My aunt came decked out in a dashiki and our Tikar tribe jewelry. Something she said that stuck with me, “You thought I’d see a movie like this come out, knowing you like comics, My sister’s children, basically my children and not drag you out here, ?” She said this loudly in pidgin outside the movie theatre and again at first I was embarrassed, because people were just looking at us.
On the second watch I realized:
Children descended from Africa throughout history have essentially been at the mercy of the rest of the world to view, their hopes, dreams, pain, and love as important as their own, when the adults of their communities are working hard labour jobs away.
What becomes of children when the world order makes it so their elders, die or are distracted and jaded with their own struggles to help you?
That essentially makes kids like Kill-monger. Despite their lack of connection, their experiences in America have made them one of the loudest, proudest, trend setting ethnic groups on the planet. There’s a difference between first gen African Americans like me, vs ADOS African Americans like cousins who are half. I was stifling my own enjoyment, of my own culture for the curtesy of others. Like Wakanda had done. And T’challa was starting to see through it.
Throughout our diaspora our cultures surrounding around our connection to our ancestors, has been at the base. But what happens your ancestors are snuffed out and your elders forget about you?
I’m so happy my aunt didn’t.
And T’challa realized what he had to do.
The ending of the movie was perfect, even though the first watch was soiled when my friend whispered“Omg, they went to the hood”, the second watch
On the way home listening to All the Stars, I the same expression Sammy did at the end of Sinners driving home to the plantation. Thank you guys so much for your reaction! And to anyone who read this, I needed this off my chest bruh.
Ruth Carter who did the costumes for Sinners also did the costumes for Black Panther. Also, Ryan Coogler came to Kendrick for one song for the movie, Kendrick came back with an entire album. It’s VERY good.
I love how this movie is basically The Lion King with humans ?
Did something change with your capture or is the framerate on this movies supposed to be like that?
Another side effects after moving studios, they'll probably iron it out soon
i noticed it in the last game of thrones video. something is off with the framerate
No the dad was not the black panther anymore. T’challa was already the black panther and he had the superpowers already.
I would class this movie as just, alright. It's quite a generic formula. It's watchable, but can be boring for stretches of time, and even down right cringe. It's also got some of the worst VFX and CGI, It was also said that they even took money for the effects out of Ant Man & The Wasps budget, and still had worse effects than Ant Man & The Wasp. To me it just feels that its success and over hyping is pretty much to do with the fact that it is a predominantly black cast. It is nowhere near the worst of the MCU but its also not in the top half for me.
I don't know about all that, but I agree that the hype was mostly around the cast, crew, and cultural significance (all of which IS extremely important, don't get me wrong). But as a half-black, half-white man who grew up only around his white family, I have zero connections to my black heritage and barely any interest in it at all, so all of that completely missed me and I came out of this seeing it as just a movie. And yeah, it's good. But that's it. At the time, it was kind of depressing for me. Seeing a bunch of people like me who felt immense pride in this film representing them and I felt nothing of the sort. Just a reminder that inside, I'm just not black. And while I'm normally fine with that, this time, I felt jealous. Luckily for me, a certain event at the end of Endgame and ESPECIALLY a certain team-up, buddy series injected me with such a massive sense of pride at being an African-American that I FINALLY understood exactly what the rest of the black community felt watching this movie and yeah, it feels INCREDIBLE!! Even coming from a series that was pretty good, but had some big flaws.
I agree, its definitely overrated. Not bad but not great.
What an absolutely L take
Hey the moment they used an outdated meme even for back then, it became quite a cringey film. And you cant tell me there weren't any slow and boring scenes. Hell if it wasn't for Michael b Jordan's performance I'd probably rate this film a little lower. That dude nailed every scene he was in, one of the best performances in the MCU.
I’ve only watched this movie one time in theaters and after rewatching with you guys I gotta say it just as amazing as I remember
alot of people hype this movie but i have to say its probably worst 3 marvel movie of all time for me ... i nearly fell asleep several times because the pacing is horrible and the end was rushed so the CGI ... lets be honest the CGI underground is like 20 year old made by 1 guy its the worst cgi in marvel ever (not all movie just the scenes underground)
Bottom three seems overly harsh. It's pretty mid imo, maybe in the bottom 10, but there are a lot of worse ones.
rage bait bot
in what world am i rage bait bot ???
i say "for me" its worse 3 ... i am a marvel fanboy and this movie is there with me with thor2 and eternals ...
Well that is your negative opinion of it I say this movie is amazing.
ofc its my opinion of it ... i never said the movie is worst 3 for YOU did i ? xD i just said that for me it was boring and rly bad cgi
You guys gotta remember that the Avengers aren’t exactly together no more because of the events in Civil War, Cap and Tony aren’t exactly on speaking terms, Cap and some of the heroes like Black Widow, Sam, and Wanda are off grid, Thor and Hulk are still in outer space somewhere with an unknown ship encountering them, so they don’t exactly have that many heroes on deck at the moment.
Just to remind you guys Klaue lost his left arm in Age of Ultron by Ultron.
I completely forgot Klaue was in AoU lmao
That line T'Challa had for Klaue, "Every breath you take is mercy from me." So incredibly cold. I love it so much.
It's been said before and I'll say it again: Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman, the only white people in the main cast, each play major roles in Lord of the Rings, making them... "The two Tolkien white guys."
Kilmongers final scene will always make me sob its just too real. He's probably the only antagonist in marvel I actually pitied
RIP Chadwick
Wakanda does have space ships. In one of the What If episodes where T'Challa is abducted by Yondu instead of Peter, we find out his father went out into the galaxy searching for him. I'm also pretty sure it's implied their 'plane' ships in the movie are traveling with suborbital flights.
In civil war it was the transition period for T'Challa and T'Chaka, so T'Challa became the black panther as protector while he was shadowing his father who was the active king of Wakanda
t'challa was already black panther before his father died. black panther is "a mantle passed from warrior to warrior" the black panther chooses his successor, and only they are allowed to eat the purple fruit.
After t'chaka died, he became king. T'chaka wasn't the black panther
I'm sure Ta'challa was the black panther in stead for his father. I think if you have an heir they can act as the black panther for the king if they're too old to do it themselves
The whole taking over is very easy thr vibranium is indestructible and can cut anything so God or man it can kill you
heres hoping infinity war and endgame are a double drop
It wont be because Ant Man and Wasp and Captain Marvel are before Endgame
probably not cause there are two other movies in between, but here's to hoping they way all the movies grouped together
This movie is sooo good. I remember going to watch it with my dad when it first released. Black Panther is one of my favorite Marvel characters
Man i'm loving the MCU watch y'all should also watch THE BOYS!!!! It's a gritty dark superhero show with some light humor it would be perfect for yall and the channel if you havent watched it already its a masterpiece in its class
Angela Baset should have been Storm
When KM first challenges T'Challa, and he breaks the spear to shorten it, it's a reference to Shaka Zulu as depicted in the 1986 South African TV Series, where he fashioned a new, shorter spear called an iklwa, about a meter long.
This is such a great movie. I'd recommend Creed but you might need to do the Rocky movies first... tbh not sure because I've only ever seen the first and last Rocky movies.
However, I can highly recommend Ryan Coogler's first movie, Fruitvale Station. It's based on a true story, and I was in college when this happened. It was such a huge story yet NO ONE talks about it outside of the SF Bay Area and its one of those movies that I think needs to be told, seen, and shared. I don't recall it being a super difficult watch but its one that leaves you feeling frustrated and mad at the world.
Fun fact: Michael B. Jordan's favorite anime character is Vegeta so he requested his costume be modeled like his saiyan armor
Didn't know that, I can see it now lol.
As far as I know the black panther/captain america game is still happening you might be thinking of the wonder woman game that was canceled
No, they're talking about the solo Black Panther game that was cancelled
the Black Panther soundtrack was nominated for like two dozen awards and won two Grammys; Kendrick did an amazing job
also the "White Wolf" is a comic reference to a Black Panther character, Hunter, who is T'Challa's adopted brother. A lot of people [me included] thought that Bucky was gonna be the MCU's version. I can see why they chose not to, seeing as it kinda makes them look hypocritical for all xenophobia.
god, I forget how great this movie is and Killmonger is such a top tier villain.
black panther in the comics owns more than 7 star systems
not to sound snippy, cause i genuinely want to know but does that mean he owns 8?
Tchalla was the Black Panther while his father lived. He said it himself in Civil War. Thats also why he was running faster than the cars alongside the other super soldiers.
Got to watch kpop demon hunters
Them wanting a throwing knife board is crazy after Bree accidently got shot with a nerf gun on stream a few days ago, I don't think they want to take those chances with something sharp. LMAO!
Just to clear up any confusion:
The title of King of Wakanda and the title of Black Panther are not always tied to each other. One can be king but not the Black Panther, and one can be the Black Panther but not the king. That’s just always been the norm.
T’Challa was already Black Panther at the start of Captain America: Civil War, because his dad had become too old to be the Black Panther.
King T'Chaka wasnt the black panther for a long time before his death, T'Challa was the black panther before we seen him in Civil War, he just wasnt the king yet.
In case it wasn’t already known Klaue was Gollum in both The Hobbit and LOTR.
Gollum and Bilbo meeting in the mcu goes hard
wasnt expecting it today but highly glad it did lfggggggggggg
T'challa was the black panther before his father died, which is why he was so nuts in Civil War. Father was probably too old to be the panther by that point
One of my all time favorite films ever. The legacy and importance of this film cannot go understated.
RIP Chadwick!!
WAKANDA FOREVER ??♀️ such an iconic and beautiful film Ryan coogler is the goat ? as well as Micheal b Jordan RIP Chadwick boseman a freaking legend ????
There the marvel game 1943: rise of hydra. You get to play as captain america and black panther. It got delayed to 2026.
Wakanda forever
Love your videos, can’t wait for infinity war
No spoilers, but let’s just say they’re in for a great time.
I adore the new office.
First lets goo
