the dub is half as funny as the sub. You loose all of the engrish, which is half of what makes jojo's so damn good.

It's understandable to want to watch this anime in English, but there's something about the performance in Japanese, I understand nothing of Japanese, but even then I'd highly recommend it. They use a lot of Engrish in the original and so there's lots and lots of jokes that just won't be the same as the original. Like I said, I'm not familiar at all with Japanese, but it's still for sure the way to go in my opinion, but of course, you do what you want with it.

  especially later into the anime when these main characters just get cooler and cooler.

Just watch the opening when it happens especially for a show like jojos that has a lot of changes for specific episodes, if someone does think you shouldn't watch them like that I don't think they're smart enough for their opinion to matter that much.

Do we know how much of this show they've seen before? They never mentioned in the beginning. I know they tend to forget things so it's still a reaction but is there a point where it becomes fully blind?
