Daemon reminds me a loooot of Ramsay Bolton
Man, I got chills at the end there
Otto complaining about Daemon's ambition and then immediately after sending Alicent to flirt with the king lol.
I wonder if the tourney herald is a Targaryen bastard since he was wearing a black dragon on red... In the books bastards usually wear the colors of the main branch of the family but inverted.
Tourney rules are mostly up to the host. So it was up to King Viserys if he wanted to disqualify Daemon.
I rank this season 1 of HOTD as the 3rd best season in the GOT universe. (3 & 4 of GOT are a bit better imo)
This story being contained to the Targaryans historic events is why the show is so fast paced. But true enough that GOT helps with establishing the world we are entering again!!
As someone who has seen GOT over 20 times all the way through, i actually enjoy many aspects of HOTD more! Excited to continue this journey with y'all!!!
Ive rewatched HOTD season 1 more than any GOT season
The King's sword is called Blackfyre btw it's a tie between that one and Dark Sister for the coolest one. For blades in general, not just swords, Catspaw wins every day.
I'm so glad that they recognized the Catspaw dagger from GOT, I have seen reactors that went both seasons and didn't have a clue.
Wait Erik, burn you to death?! Sir, do you know how cremation works? LMAO
"Babies make weird noises sometimes" ya, not this one anymore...
I regret laughing at this!
I really do forget how much they show you exactly what kind of show this is going to be in the first episode lmao they are not holding back.
them making fun of robert baratheon not knowing his nickname is "Demon of the Trident"
Honestly, the Targaryen Valyrian steel blades are some of the coolest of the series.
01:01:20 "the idea that we control the dragons is an illusion" this one line made me want to see more of the events that happened prior to this. Viserys hints at a deeper story and some other events that led him to this conclusion and I feel like it heavily revolves around Balerion. I truly hope they adapt this.
With two of the actors from it in this, the Lord of Coin and the Head of the Kingsguard, it makes me want ya'll to watch Outlander with Bree.
Also, Sansa and Robb's uncle is a main character in it aswell.
So many reactors mistake the Dragon Pit for the Sept of Baelor...lol
Game of thrones decide to put the dragon pit outside of king's landing even though it's supposed to be in the city
I have my complaints with House of the Dragon but no matter what they know that the thing people want to see is the dragons and they always look amazing!
always get chills when Viserys starts talking about the events that happen in GOT. and yes that dagger he is carrying, is the one Arya used to kill the Night King
Rhaenys Targaryen is suppose to have black/brown hair like in the books as she is part Baratheon
Black hair not brown. Baratheons have black hair. There is a difference.
So I think the nicknames are the kind of thing where they basically call someone out based on who they actually are or its a title of their deeds and their story (a la Daenerys "Stormborn", or Tormund "Giantsbane", etc). Cuz I think like if you were to call Bran the Broken instead like, Bran the Unbreakable, think how that would play at court: "All Hail Bran the Unbreakable!" and everyone in the throne room's like "is this mf for real for real? This bitch ain't got no legs. Unbreakable my ass." And then it's just a joke that's he's "Unbreakable". So instead they say he's Bran the Broken, and its an acceptance, maybe even a sign of respect. "This is Bran the Broken, the kid who survived being pushed out a window, the kid who survived beyond the Wall, the kid who will never walk but is wise with the memory of all time!" That's been one interpretation I've made on the nicknames over the years.
Then again with Jaime "Kingslayer" it might just be an insult. But everyone would just call him "Kingslayer", not "Jaime Kingslayer", so maybe that's how the language works. If your last name is a title, even if it sounds dumb, its respecful. If you're ONLY called by your nickname, its an insult.
And then you have the Blackfish who nobody remembers the real name of but all respect as a legend.
the names are supposed to be confusing, just like real life dynasties everyone gives their kid the same names
It's said, not in any of the shows, so not a spoiler, that the Iron Throne will cut those unworthy to sit upon it.
I have so much faith in the potential of this series. Mostly because it is a finished story. Game of Thrones was based on an unfinished story that is yet to be completed by the original author. The showrunners won't run out of source material this time. Also, Benioff and Weiss, the showrunners that gave up on Game of Thrones and phoned in the ending, are not involved.
When you are all caught up I recommend reacting to the director commentary with the actors for both HOTD AND GOT. It will provide much insight on how they wane about their whole timeline. Also kinda crazy how the Targaryens were nearly whipped out of existence and the last two saved the world without this knowledge that it is literally a prophecy about the end of the world. Imagine if Danny knew this before Jon ever knew about the walkers.
Bran the Broken was a title made by the writers who had already given up. There's a reason it sucks. Thankfully, the same writers are not involved with House of the Dragon.
I don't know if you recognize him at all, but Otto Hightower is portrayed by the same actor that played Adrian in Little Nicky, the eldest brother and lead villain.
Rhys Ifans is truly a chameleon.
fuck yeah hyped erik is joining along for this one, seen game of thrones 3 times now after watching with yall but never watched this show yet.
Season 1 is so good
To be fair to the council deciding to call the meeting for succession after the funeral, the lifetime of a king can be really short, Viserys and Rhaenys' dads both died of random accidents, one of them just eating the wrong thing one night; so I do understand the idea that they have the meeting as soon as possible, was atleast an understandable one.
editor gettin overtime this episode
HELL YES! I really do think yall will like it. . It’s fun to watch everything unfold, but it’s definitely slower paced for the first season.
Erik...a 3 headed Dragon is obviously King Ghidora come on man.
I tried to watch this last year and didn't get past the 2nd episode, 1st episode was definitely better with their reaction.
I’m almost sure Roberts nickname was The Demon of the Trident. At the battle of the trident he was a monster on the field and beat rhaegar in single combat with his war hammer. He even said in thrones he never wanted to be king. Also in the books in pretty sure in his prime he was like 6’6 and pure muscle.
Speaking of Doctor who, are you guys planning to continue that? If so when lol
next year at the earliest
Did they say that?
Yes, in the discord and also in reply to YouTube comments under their latest update video
This episode did a remarkable job contrasting the violence men face (battlefield, tournaments) with the violence Queen Aemma describes to Rhaenyra - the birthing bed. Intercutting the scenes of Daemon at the tourney with Viserys in the birthing chamber was genius. Both brothers filled with hubris, celebrating victory too early only to see it snatched away.
They did a cool thing at the end with Aegon's prophecy as well. King Viserys says "Promise me, promise me", same exact words Lyanna Stark said to Ned as she died.
Also Rhaenys the Queen Who Never Was is King Viserys's cousin, not his sister. By all rights she should have inherited the crown as she is the eldest child of the old King's named heir, but she didn't because female.
Never seen this or Game of Thrones, both sad and happy I never got round to it. So glad I got to experience GOT with you two, Theon's moment really messed me up more than anything else, I weeped like a bitch. Also thank fuck Eric is here for House of the Dragon!
They weren't just randomly grabbing people and accusing them of crimes to dismember or kill them. Those were people that were known for those crimes. So, actual criminals. Still authoritarian, but also still criminals
This show leaves a lot up for interpretation, so I always felt like it was a mix of criminals and not, mostly because they were summary executions, where none of them faced trial, and all accusations were treated as fact.
True & the best shows do this alot. Leaving it open to work multiple ways allows for more ppl to connect with it & assume whatever they want from it without misinterpretations
So excited for House Of Dragon. Love you guys, LETS GO!!
Watching reactors react to the birthing scene always restores my faith in humanity. I was actually shocked how viscerally people react to this vs. other scenes containing more violence or gore. It always reminds me that even people with the toughest mindsets can have empathy for such an emotional scene.
There actually are a lot of fucked up names given to real kings in our world. Ivarr the Boneless is so named because he was disabled, Charles the Simple was so named because he was a dumbass and Charles the Fat was so named because he was a fat shit.
Hot D!!
They weren’t shouting random crimes at those people. The City Watch was so bad at their jobs before Daemon took over that people were just thieving, killing and raping in plain sight so the criminals are already known to them.
Seeing the jousting and with last Monday's the Dark Knight, I want you guys to watch a Knights Tale with Heath Ledger. Or maybe some of the JV team and people who haven't seen the movie yet. It's weirdly one of my favourite movies.
LETS GOOOOOO!
Remember, the City Guard aka the Gold Cloaks are loyal to Daemon. The Kingsguard (the ones in grey with white cloaks) are loyal to the King.
“The only thing that could tear down the House of the Dragon was itself” Jon killed Dany and before that, Dany stood by and let her brother die and even further back, Robert led a rebellion against the Mad King(The Baratheons have a little Targaryen blood in them bc the original Baratheon was a Targaryen bastard).
You could also justify the last part by saying the Mad King’s madness, and frankly incompetence at handling the rebellion, tore them down from within. Oh also, Robert has a closer relation to the Targaeryans than Orys, you can search it up because I don’t remember if it’s spoilery to anything
I’m just sad that there’s only gonna be 4 seasons of this show. So it’ll probably end in 2030 at the earliest.
And just 8 episodes too… HBO are idiots
So “Queen Who Never Was” is sort of a light jab at Rhaenys, but also very much treason against Viserys (basically you’re acknowledging her as a Queen) which is why Otto said that Viserys could have Boremund’s tongue for that. Boremund is also one of Rhaenys’ supporters because her mother is a Baratheon which makes them first cousins. In fact in the books, Rhaenys’ hair is black becuase the seed is strong for Baratheons, and as thin as a sheet of paper for the Targaeryans. Similar to how Jon’s hair is black like his mother instead of his father.
Also there’s a recurring idea in ASOIAF where prophecies, particularly those from Targaeryan dreams, are routinely wrong. So there’s a interpretation I read on the comments of a livestream that the dream Viserys had of a “son being born wearing Aegon’s Iron Crown as he heard the… ringing swords” was actually a prophecy predicting the death of Aemma with the iron crown on the baby’s head, being the knives that cut into Aemma’s womb. I don’t know if it’s true, but that was just an insane interpretation to read the first time and I wanted to share it here lol
Oh by the way the guys that stopped Daemon at the throne are Kingsguard like Jaime was. Theones loyal to Daemon are Goldcloaks that protect the city
Aemma's actress really hit it out of the park during the birthing scene. I'm not squeamish for blood and gore, but her screams and pleading for him not to kill her make me feel physically sick every time I've seen that scene.
I can't even watch or listen to that scene. It also kinda makes me hate the King for making that choice
King hates himself for doing it even before the boy Balon dies. Theres no good answers only awful choices
The Queen Who Never Was was basically a jab like King Slayer is to Jaime.
No they where actually criminals
Me when my first meeting of the day starts at the same time y'all release new HOT-D viedeos =-(
Also, wish Bree could be here to complete the reaction squad, but considering her reaction to THAT scene in Falcon and the Winter Soldier... yeah, she wouldn't survive this lol
I had been waiting all morning for this!
Same
Why did you guys never finish disenchantment
HELL YEAH IM READY! HOUSE OF THE DRAGON!!
Dude yes! We’re diving right back in House Of Dragon there’s a lot to appreciate in this show.
all but season 2
Season 2’s fine, it had its problems, but the most major ones were due to the writer strike, and HBO shortening the season mid-production.
Sorry but i found it so incredibly boring, season 1 was good though.
YESSSSS I'VE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS
so excited for this love you guys
