   Swtor is amazing because whether you’re a Jedi or sith or whatever class you’re alignment can be whatever you can be an evil Jedi or a good sith be in the middle be a cruel stormtrooper or benevolent bounty hunter it’s all dependent on you

   not surprisingly, this is one of if not the GREATEST Star Wars game. It's very expansive, massive multiplayer, bunch of classes and way to build, god and dark alignment. 

   I remember when this game first came out and my dad showed me the trailer(the first one with the smuggler). I was in and periodically dip in and out every now and then.

   To give you guys a frame of reference.  In the timeline of events, The Old Republic takes place almost 4000 years before Star Wars Episode IV (A New Hope) and it takes place 300 years after the events of Knights of the Old Republic.

   Though, as with most of these games, it is part of the Legends continuity (also called the Expanded Universe or EU).  All EU content is considered non-canon. 

   As for the story, there isn't really a "main character" per say, since its an MMO, you the player are technically the main character.  And also you're allowed to either join the Republic or the Sith.  There are some major characters though, such as Satele Shan, master of the Jedi Council, and Darth Malgus (the Sith guy that showed up several times).  And some of the other characters you've seen the trailer are available in the game as companions, all with their own side stories.
