    Hope someone explained it to you down the line, or at least that you see this, but Aang wasn't using a technique or anything, he was working in tandem with the Ocean spirit to punish the Fire Nation for killing the Moon Spirit. When they saw the Moon Spirit had returned to life, they withdrew, and the Ocean Spirit took the guy who killed her in the first place as one final act of vengeance. Also, Yue did not become a water spirit, she became the Moon Spirit itself.
