   I know this is from a long time ago but just in case no one’s told you, the cannibal tribe that ambushed and ate travelers is an actual story. It’s unclear how true it is as the story has been passed down through generations and essentially become folklore but the story is that Sawney Bean and his Wife lived in Scotland in the 16th century. They lived in a cave and ambushed travelers at night, sleeping during the day. They ended up having six daughters and eight sons as well as 14 granddaughters and 18 grandsons(through incest). The Bean Family killed over 1,000 people in 25 years. Many innocent people were lynched for the disappearances, specifically innkeepers because the victims were travelers. Eventually they ambushed a couple. They captured the wife but the husband was saved when a group of people came riding up the trail causing the Beans to flee. He was taken to the local magistrate, who then contacted the king(possibly James VI of Scotland) who in turn led a posse of men and bloodhounds to the cave. The Bean Family surrendered without a fight and were immediately sentenced to death(having been viewed as undeserving of a trial). The men were castrated and had their hands and legs cut off and bled to death. The women and children were burned at the stake.
