To answer a few questions you guys have had for the show:
1) The show is set in a world called Runeterra, not Earth. It’s very Earth-like with a standard moon, seasons, etc, but its people are much more in touch with magic.
2) Everyone in this world knows magic as a force exists and can be used, but up until Hextech was invented, it could only be wielded by Mages, people born with the gift of magic. That’s why Hextech is so revolutionary. It allows ANYONE to use magic as a power source. It’s the equivalent of splitting the atom.
3) Since Mages are the only ones who can wield magic, it naturally became a power that was abused. The world was plagued by conflicts called the Rune Wars that nearly destroyed the planet. When Piltover was founded, their law the Ethos dictated that no magic could not be cultivated within their boarders, hence their focus on science and technology. Building things like guns and steam tech was meant to be their answer to magic, but now Hextech is supposed to further balance the scales. But Heimerdinger was around during the Rune Wars, so as much as he wants to believe in using Hextech for good, he’s cautious about giving portable nukes to everyday people. Mel, on the other hand, feels like Heimerdinger is too cautious and wants to embrace Hextech to make Piltover a superpower.
JV Team further not conforming to normal nature, hell yeah. Another enjoyable episode and discussion. Funny how much stuff I missed/forgot when re-watching through your eyes.
