Five Nights At Freddy’s REACTION

I will say, being a casual Fnaf fan and being into the lore, I do think that their are some potential issues the fanbase may have with how much the lore was shifted around, but honestly that isn't my biggest issue. Personally, I was pulled out of the film a bit once they started having that goofy montage with the animatronics. However, the movie was able to pull me back in relatively quickly... until William Afton showed up. As a person who enjoys good horror; the main villain of this movie is not scary or intimidating in the slightest. William Afton in the games (what little we got of him) was originally depicted as calm, intelligent, well spoken, egotistical, cagey, and driven by both envy and bloodlust. Not only that, but despite being a serial killer, William Afton had a wife, two sons, and a daughter (named Elizabeth not Vanessa, who died as a child), all of whom he seemingly loved (in his own messed up way), potentially even creating his own sadistic justification for killing, since his youngest son's death is believed to be what drove him over the edge. He felt more like a genuine clinical psychopath; inability to distinguish between right and wrong, difficulty with showing remorse or empathy, tendency to lie often, manipulating and hurting others, narcissistic behavior, etc. According to an article called "9 Subtle Ways Psychopaths Communicate Differently, According to Science" (I'll provide a link bellow), "Studies show psychopaths usually speak in a controlled manner. They don't emphasize emotional words like other people do. Their tone remains fairly neutral throughout the conversation. Researchers suspect they craft a calm demeanor intentionally because it helps them gain more control in their personal interactions." I recommend reading the whole article, it's not super long, and just imagine if the movie had depicted William like a real psychopath.

William Afton in this film however, is stupid, loud, angry, childish, and cartoonishly evil, like... mustache twirling levels of evil. I can't take him seriously as a threat. I mean, yelling at the animatronics? What did he hope to accomplish with that? Then there's also the fact that he's still alive which presents so many issues; why are the animatronics not killing him, when in the game it is heavily implied that they attack the security guard because he's one of Afton's sons and bears a striking resemblance to his father (they thought Mike was William)? What even was William's plan in this film? If he wanted to kill Mike, why didn't he do it the first night that Mike was there, why did he wait for Mike to realize that the animatronics were possessed? and if he wanted to mess with Mike before killing him, why did he not show up until the very end? if he wanted to kill Mike's sister, then why didn't William kill her the first night she was at Freddie's? Can you imagine for a moment, if the Mike in this film was William Afton's older son, and couldn't remember his past? that would have created such a strong connection between antagonist and protagonist.

and that last line from William Afton was so cringy, "I always come back", I mean I know it's kinda his signature line, but it doesn't work in this context. "I always come back" is William definitively stating; "no matter how many times I die, you will never be rid of me". This line doesn't work if he hasn't died at least once before. and also, they included Venessa, who isn't even related to Afton in the games, yet they excluded the marionette animatronic? the marionette is probably the second most important character in the games since, A) she gave new life to the rest of the children inside of the animatronics(she's the reason they are possessed to begin with), and B) her lines in Ultimate Custom Night; "the others are under my protection", and "the others are like animals, but I am very aware", and "I recognize you (William Afton), but I'm not afraid of you... not anymore". and can you imagine how much more satisfying William's death would have been in this film if he had been calm, monotone, and sadistic throughout, then as the springlocks failed, we heard genuine fear; blood-curdling screams of pain and fear finally breaking his facade of control and superiority?

overall, I enjoyed this film, but I really didn't like the way William Afton was portrayed, and I feel like their should have been more mystery in the way the film told its story, as an homage to the games. However, and this might be a bit of a hot-take, I also feel like this movie over-simplified the story of Five Nights at Freddie's. I know the lore is notorious for being convoluted, but they could have just tidied up the lore instead of simplifying it by cutting away so much and then stitching the leftover pieces together in a way that doesn't make sense to many of the fans. Sure, in isolation the movie is pretty solid, but the story feels like someone read the synopsis of the Fnaf lore on a wiki then tried to make a movie out of it without truly understanding the source material.

Somewhere they could go is try to find the brother since he wasn't there with the other's, at least as far as we saw. Also, considering the movie has a Pg-13 rating and the critics complaining about it not being scary enough!

As a long time fan, I felt like this was the perfect love letter for my mixed love for the franchise. I really like that thing you guys said about how horror isn’t set in stone as a “gore fest” and that’s why most of my favourite horror movies and games have forms of dark humor or other genres tied to them like tragedy. I get bored watching the same bloody killer thing over and over again with no Nuance. I was afraid they were gonna make the animatronics be one dimensional “kill everything in sight” basically what they are in the main games (at least the original trilogy). But I really really felt like I was given something that I love. Maybe it’s also because I’m one of those “Security Breach was fun for me” people (and it genuinely does scare me at times)

I was actually going into this thinking it would be just one big spook fest with no nuance, but I’m really happy, especially with the missing children given more adaptation to the story. I’m the games they’re hardly existing, just as anomolies if anything. I could go on and on about why it felt so genuinely fun to see this in cinemas after being a fan for so long, but it’s way too long of a comment already lol

Please follow this up by watching the rest of the Game Theory's FNAF timeline. While it's not perfect, it's a great watch to get more of the basic storyline the games have scattered around.

Guys, I love ya, but the Critics ain't wrong on this one. No bias whatsoever and I was bored out of my mind.

As a fan, i dont know how i feel about the movie... the easter eggs were cool but the plot is an absolute mess and somehow it doesnt follow most of the games lore besides the general concept. Idk if it wouldve had any enjoyment if i didnt watch it with friends.

the cameos and animatronics were cool tho. story not so much.

please react to the kingsman movies next, and since this movie is based off of a game you guys should react to the live action mortal kombat movie, not the ones from the 90s the latest one i mean
